MUS 320 - Large Console Recording (3 units) Learn the basic workflow of a large format, automated analog console, including basic recording studio audio systems integration. Topics include applications, studio electronic theory, gain structure, signal routing, metering/monitoring, channel components, computer integration, and legacy automation. Through applied, hands-on learning, students explore the functions of a Solid State Logic AWS 948 Delta recording console, with full use of inserts, on-board dynamics, and automation/recall.
Maximum units a student may earn: 6
Prerequisite: MUS 233.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 2 Units of Laboratory/Studio: 1 Offered: Every Fall and Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. apply concepts of general audio signal routing and gain structure in recording/mixing theory and techniques. 2. integrate analog audio outboard systems with recording consoles. 3. demonstrate a knowledge of patchbay function and operation. 4. demonstrate a knowledge of operating levels and standards. 5. apply basic recording studio theory/workflow, and best practices.
