HIST 387A - The World Wars and their Era

Survey of the political, cultural, social, diplomatic, military, and global histories of the First and Second World Wars in their broader twentieth century context.

Prerequisite(s): ENG 102 .

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. analyze, evaluate, and interpret primary sources with attention to content, historical and cultural context, genre, and language through class discussion and written assignments.
2. analyze and clearly explain the argument, main points, and use of evidence in secondary sources through class discussion and written assignments.
3. identify primary and secondary sources for independent research and then clearly and effectively articulate an original argument and interpretation in verbal and written form.
4. demonstrate awareness of, and ability to analyze, the impact of global historical forces that shaped societies, individual experiences, and ideologies during the age of the world wars.
5. analyze the historical experiences and interactions of diverse individuals, groups, and societies during the first half of the twentieth century through discussion and written assignments.
