The functional organization of the central nervous system, its relationship to brain disorders, and pharmacologic therapeutic strategies used to treat nervous system and brain disorders.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. describe the functional organization of the central nervous system as a basis for understanding brain disorders and pharmacologic therapeutic strategies.
2. explain the underlying mechanisms of drugs used for anxiety, depression, insomnia, narcolepsy, psychosis, seizures, migraines, anesthetics, and narcotic analgesics.
3. describe therapeutic drug strategies for treating neurodegenerative disorders.
