SCI 450 - Molecular Pharmacology

(3 units) CO14
The molecular pharmacology of small molecules and biologics. The molecular biochemistry of drugs used in antimicrobial and cancer chemotherapy, immunopharmacology, cell-based therapies and gene editing therapies.

Prerequisite(s): General Education courses (CO1-CO3) completed; at least 3 courses from CO4-CO8 completed; Junior or Senior standing; BIOL 315 ; CHEM 345 ; SCI 320 .

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. articulate a research question in molecular pharmacology and describe it in the format of a grant proposal with appropriate literature review. 
2. explain the molecular biochemistry of drugs used in antimicrobial and cancer chemotherapy, immunopharmacology, cell-based therapies and gene editing therapies.
3. describe the basic concepts involved in drug discovery.
