MSE 620 - Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Alloys (3 units) Provides senior undergraduate students and graduate students with the physical metallurgy of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, including steel, Al alloys, Mg alloys, Ti alloys and Ni-based super-alloys. The emphasis is on the alloy design, processing- structure- property relations, and introduction of commercial ferrous and non-ferrous alloys.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall - Odd Years
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics. 2. apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors. 3. recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts. 4. apply engineering research and theory to advance the art, science, and practice of the discipline. 5. demonstrate understanding of the research methodology.
