ENG 720 - Problems in Medieval English (3 units) Selected subjects in the literature of the Old and Middle English periods, including continental literature in translation.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. apply their knowledge of Middle English grammar to read and analyze Middle English texts in their cultural and historical contexts. 2. identify the features of the various Middle English dialects and distinguish the dialects of the texts we read. 3. engage with and apply critical and theoretical debates, both recent and historical, to the course’s primary texts. 4. synthesize the course readings and the relevant secondary literature to write a well-crafted research paper.
