IS 615 - Data Integration and Transformation with Python

This course explores how data can be transformed for use in data analytics through the Python programming language. The course highlights how to access data from a variety of publicly available repositories and uses Python to transform that data into data sets that are capable of being used to support decision-making in organizations.

Prerequisite(s): Admission to the MS in Information Systems.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. describe the challenges involved with extracting, transforming, and loading data from a variety of different data repositories.
2. describe the basic components of the Python language including data structures, loops, and conditional logic.
3. identify opportunities to make use of advanced Python constructs such as functions, objects, and classes.
4. use Python to extract, transform and load data into formats that are able to be used for analytical processes.
5. use Python to clean data.
6. identify an appropriate data set to answer their research questions.
