ART 312 - Intermediate Ceramics (3 units) Continuation of ART 212 with emphasis on sculpture, pottery and independent investigation of the materials. Advanced technical and aesthetic aspects of clay, clay bodies and glazes.
Maximum units a student may earn: 6
Prerequisite(s): 9 units in ceramics or (ART 211 and ART 212 and ART 216 ).
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Laboratory/Studio: 3 Offered: Every Fall and Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. load and fire kilns. 2. analyze and develop an individual visual language. 3. integrate narrative, psychological, emotional, and/or conceptual aspects of art into ceramic pieces. 4. demonstrate awareness of historical and contemporary artists in relation to their work. 5. further hone their persuasive, information-gathering, and justification skills through critiques, both theirs and their classmates. 6. conduct research in order to deepen ideas. 7. use coherent communication and writing abilities to express an intermediate vocabulary and critical evaluation skills from a variety of sources related to ceramics.
