HIST 214 - Latina/o/x History (3 units) CO10 Introduces the history of Latina/o/x communities in the United States. Uses a thematic approach to Latina/o/x history, including: historical foundations; identity and belonging; imperialism; gender and sexuality; popular culture; contemporary experiences; intersectionality. An exploration of several common features of a broader, national Latina/o/x community, such as migration (legal, undocumented, and contract labor), work, unionization, education, and social activism in pursuit of equality.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. analyze, evaluate, and interpret primary sources. 2. analyze and clearly explain the argument, main points, and use of evidence in secondary sources. 3. clearly and effectively articulate an original interpretation in verbal and written form. 4. identify key events, issues, and policies related to various Latina/o/x groups in the United States, their history and cultural contributions to contemporary life. 5. describe forms of Latina/o/x marginalization based on race, ethnicity, gender, class, and geography and challenges against those forms.
