HIST 409 - History of Sports in America (3 units) CO10, CO13 The role of sports from colonial times to the present. Emphasis upon social, cultural, economic and political dimensions of American sports.

Prerequisite(s): General Education courses (CO1-CO3) completed; at least 3 courses from CO4-CO8 completed; Junior or Senior standing.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. describe the various ways Sports reflects how race, gender, and class have shaped American history. 2. analyze and synthesize primary, secondary, and cultural sources. 3. find and use historical scholarship and sources to answer a research question. 4. present ideas in a clear and persuasive manner both orally and in writing, in accordance with the ethical principles governing scholarly inquiry. 5. use relevant scholarship and historical evidence to analyze struggles for equality.
