HIST 432 - History of Women in the United States (3 units) CO10, CO13
Experiences and activities of women in the home and American society from the colonial period to the present. Emphasis on variation by class, race, ethnicity, region, and religion.
Prerequisite(s): General Education courses (CO1-CO3) completed; at least 3 courses from CO4-CO8 completed; Junior or Senior standing.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. articulate the nature of women’s experience in colonial North America and the U.S.
2. explain the nature and origins of women’s legal, social, economic, and religious limitations and how those have changed over time.
3. distinguish the varying experiences of women according to race, ethnicity, region, class, and religion.
4. interpret, analyze and synthesize primary, secondary, and cultural sources to make historically based arguments.
5. evaluate the ways that our understanding of “American history” changes if we fully incorporate women.
