MICR 300 - Medical Microbiology and Immunology (4 units) Medical bacteriology, virology, mycology, and parasitology as they apply to infectious diseases in humans. Fundamental concepts of immunology and clinical immunology.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. explain the proper use of microbial control methods and diagnostics when combating infectious diseases. 2. relate infectious diseases to immunology, the importance of vaccines, and antibiotic resistance. 3. discuss different disease-causing microbes and describe key factors associated with their pathogenicity. 4. demonstrate the use of laboratory techniques, diagnostic methods and critical thinking in the context of identifying and differentiating microbes. 5. recognize, articulate, and communicate, both orally and in writing, complex conceptual ideas related to microbial pathogenesis, infectious disease, and epidemiology. 6. articulate an awareness of some of the central historical and current diversity and equity issues, and how they influence the prevalence/incidence of infectious diseases and the medically important microbes that cause them.
