MUS 124 - History of the American Musical Theatre (3 units) CO7 Cultural, musical and theatrical survey of musical theatre in the United States, from the mid-nineteenth century to the present.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. critically assess musical examples through actively engaged listening/viewing. 2. articulate the ways in which American Musical Theater has helped shape (and in turn is shaped by) individual and communal senses of self and others. 3. discuss the function of music and musical theater in culture. 4. write about specific Broadway shows, composers, and songs descriptively and historically.
