SPAN 315 - Introduction to Translation (3 units) General principles and practice of translation. Translation from English into Spanish and vice-versa.
Prerequisite(s): SPAN 305 or SPAN 306 or SPAN 307 or SPAN 313 .
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall and Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. demonstrate understanding of basic theoretical notions in the field of translation. 2. apply basic translation techniques to written texts in English and Spanish. 3. recognize differences in terminology between linguistics and translation. 4. identify basic grammatical categories that are relevant for a successful translation of English into Spanish. 5. demonstrate ability to properly use a bilingual dictionary for the purpose of translation.
