AGSC 401 - Reporting & Public Relations in Agriculture

Introduction to the fundamentals of news reporting, writing, and public relations strategies as related to the agricultural industry. Laboratory and field exercises designed to obtain, evaluate, and communicate agricultural news and information; development of communication strategies, writing and disseminating news stories and press releases.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. demonstrate understanding of the news gathering versus public relations roles in agricultural communications.
2. demonstrate proficiency in writing for an agricultural news publication.
3. demonstrate proficiency understanding of the role of publications in agricultural industries.
4. completion of a group presentation and other assignments by the semester’s completion that demonstrates competence in news gathering in agriculture and PR principles in agriculture.
