ART 746 - Context + Culture of Contemporary Theory + Practice (3 units) This seminar provides context for contemporary practice and creative problem-solving. Students build a working knowledge of contemporary art theory and practice. Maximum of 6 credits.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. demonstrate in writing and/or form an understanding of the complexities of context from which contemporary practice derives and in which it participates. 2. demonstrate in writing or form an understanding of how their individual practices are part of a complex cultural community, with an emphasis on defining and activating the idea of embodied place. 3. speak about their work and others’ work from a perspective that is informed by a fluid set of critical contexts, both contemporary and historical.
