PHIL 495 - Professional Internship (1 to 3 units) CO14 Professional internships allow students to apply and develop their philosophical skills in appropriate non-profit, public, research, or private organizations. Students in the course will make connections between their academic work in Philosophy and potential employment after graduation. Regular meetings and assignments are required, as is the development of a polished résumé. Internship subject to departmental approval.
Maximum units a student may earn: 3
Prerequisites: junior or senior standing and completion of Core Objectives 1-3 and three of Core Objectives 4-8; 6 units in Philosophy.
Grading Basis: Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory Units of Internship/Practicum: 1 Offered: Every Fall and Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. demonstrate an understanding of their internship’s organization, its site management, and its relationship to the community and any applicable governmental agencies. 2. develop and enhance competencies in ethical and professional conduct, including an understanding of their skills and limitations as employees through critical and constructive communication with faculty and on-site supervisors. 3. apply their critical thinking, problem solving, ethical decision-making, analytical writing, argument reconstruction, research skills, and other knowledge from classes in Philosophy and related fields to their internship experience.
