ATE 721L - Therapeutic Modalities Lab

Laboratory study of the physiology of trauma and the subsequent effects on tissues. Focus on techniques and application parameters of therapeutic modalities; how to select, use and incorporate interventions for patients that align with the care plan.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. demonstrate safe operation and application of therapeutic modality equipment, including pre use inspection and calibration procedures. 
2. screen patients for indications, contraindications, precautions, and red flags prior to modality application. 
3. integrate therapeutic modalities into an ICF based plan of care that supports functional outcomes and patient goals. 
4. educate patients using health literate, culturally responsive communication regarding modality purpose, risks, benefits, and expected responses. 
5. accurately document modality application and patient response using professional medical terminology. 
6. demonstrate professional behaviors consistent with ethical practice, patient safety, and interprofessional collaboration.
