COM 412 - Intercultural Communication (3 units) Factors important to meaningful communication across cultures with emphasis on intercultural differences in North America. (General Capstone and Diversity course.)
Prerequisite(s): CH 201 or CH 202 or CH 203 ; ENG 102 ; junior or senior standing.
Units of Lecture: 3 General Capstone Course, Diversity Course Offered Every Fall and Spring Student Learning Outcomes (if available): Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to identify intercultural communication processes. 2. Students will be able to define major concepts and theories of intercultural communication. 3. Students will be able to analyze intercultural communication in a variety of contexts. 4. Students will be able to compare the role of historical, political, and religious factors in creating cultural stereotypes, perceptions, fears, desires, and misunderstandings between groups. 5. Students will be able to demonstrate effective intercultural communication skills. 6. Students will be able to compare and contrast individual communication preferences with demands of global citizenship.
