The Department of English offers programs of study leading to the degree of bachelor of arts in English, master of arts in English, master of arts in teaching English, and doctor of philosophy in English. There are different specializations within each of these degree programs. At the undergraduate level, these include literature, language and linguistics, secondary teaching, and writing; at the graduate level, they include literature, composition and rhetoric, literature and environment, and language and linguistics. The department also offers an undergraduate minor in English, capstone courses designed for students from across the campus, and both literature and writing courses open to non-majors. The department’s programs provide a strong liberal arts education; prepare students for careers in education, writing, publishing, and public service; and enable them to compete nationally for admission to graduate programs in the humanities or professional fields such as law and communications. For additional information, see the department website: http://www.unr.edu/cla/engl/main.asp
