The four-year B.S. degree in Biotechnology is designed for students who plan to seek employment in the Biotechnology industry upon graduation. Students have the option of continuing their studies by applying to the BS/MS Accelerated Program, Biotechnology  or, after completion of a B.S., the Biotechnology, M.S. , or a Ph.D. program in a related field.

The Biotechnology bachelor’s program focuses heavily on coursework in the molecular biological sciences and provides research experience in an academic and/or industrial setting. Participation in authentic research gives students the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge while gaining technical skills and real-world experience. At the end of their junior year, students may apply for the optional, accelerated one year M.S. Biotechnology program. Students accepted into the accelerated program have the option of enrolling in 1-2 approved graduate-level courses each semester during their senior year.

This program is not recommended for students seeking admission to medical, dental school or other allied health professions (instead, see Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, B.S. ). Students who are currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Biology or Biochemistry and Molecular Biology cannot earn a second major in Biotechnology.
