Students who receive a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice complete a social science degree preparing them for justice-related careers, graduate study, and law school. The Criminal Justice degree is recommended for students who seek an understanding of the criminal justice system, law, and justice. The degree is not intended to serve as a professional training program; rather it is an academically centered major that focuses on the legal, ethical, administrative, and behavioral aspects of the justice system and its various parts. The degree has two options or majors. All students must complete a core of required courses. For the Criminal Justice major, students may focus broadly on the criminal justice system and its components. In the interdisciplinary Law and Justice major, students concentrate on the context of law in a heterogeneous society including coursework in other disciplines.

At least 15 credits of required criminal justice courses must be completed at the University of Nevada, Reno. In addition to the university’s graduation requirement that students have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0, the College of Liberal Arts requires that students earn a GPA of at least 2.0 in both their major and minor fields.
