Description
The RN to BSN program is designed to provide the graduate of associate degree and diploma nursing with the opportunity to obtain a baccalaureate degree in nursing. The bachelor’s degree program is the basic preparation for professional nursing practice and leadership positions in nursing. After completing the program, the graduate is qualified for nursing positions in public health agencies, schools, hospitals and other health-care providers. Baccalaureate graduates may also earn commissioned status in the military services, as well as admission to graduate education. The RN to BSN degree program major is two to four semesters with admissions occurring both spring and fall semesters.
The baccalaureate degree program is approved by the Nevada State Board of Nursing and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
RN to BSN major students must complete the Core Curriculum requirements in addition to the nursing prerequisites before entering the major. No grade below C in any course will be accepted as applicable to the nursing degree.
Transfer to Nevada
Use the transfer agreement and the degree planner (available by clicking  at the top right of this page) to build your plan for graduation with your advisor. Course substitutions not identified on the transfer agreement require UNR advisor approval.
If a major-to-major transfer agreement is not available for your transfer institution, please check the General Core agreement if available. If neither is available, access established transfer course equivalencies to assist in your planning.
Admission Requirements
Registered Nurses (RNs) holding a diploma or an associate degree in nursing from a National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) accredited nursing school and licensed to practice nursing where clinical courses will be completed are eligible to apply to the RN-BSN completion program to earn a baccalaureate degree. Advanced placement credit may be earned by credit-by-exam evaluation. Earning advanced placement credit-by-exam is available only to nurses who have graduated from NLNAC accredited schools.
Students must have a 3.0 GPA in required nursing prerequisite courses for acceptance into the program. For RNs with a GPA below 3.0, conditional admission may be granted. Full admission will be granted if the student maintains a 3.0 GPA in the first 8 credits earned in the nursing curriculum.
