Public Health Data Management and Analysis, Graduate Certificate

The Public Health Data Management and Analysis, Graduate Certificate is one of three separate certificates offered through the Public Health Practice Graduate Certificate Program.  Each certificate has a different public health focus area. Each certificate consists of 4 courses (10 credits) and can be completed in 1-3 semesters. The graduate certificates are available to people who already have a bachelor’s or master’s degree and wish to add public health competencies to their body of knowledge.

Students who wish to advance to the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree may apply certificate credits toward the MPH upon application and admission to the program. 

Note: Students who are enrolled in this program solely are not eligible for Federal Financial Aid.

Program Objectives/Student Learning Outcomes


The goal of this certificate program is to prepare students to be effective public health professionals. Public health professionals work in a variety of organizations and agencies to contribute to the common aim of promoting and protecting health in human populations.

Student Learning Objectives for the Public Health Data Management and Analysis, Graduate Certificate are as follows:

  • Apply epidemiological methods to the breadth of settings and situations in public health practice
  • Interpret results of data analysis for public health research, policy or practice
  • Apply specific biostatistical methodologies in the context of a broader public health research framework
  • Identify factors associated with the spatial distribution of disease.
  • Manage public health data using statistical software

Admission Requirements


The certificate program serves post-baccalaurete students who are working in public health, or post-baccalaureate students who wish to add public health competencies to their body of knowledge. Students must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university to be accepted into the graduate certificate program.

Application is made directly to the Graduate School of the University of Nevada, Reno.

The Public Health Data Management and Analysis, Graduate Certificate addresses competencies related to analysis of quantitative data and the application of biostatistical methodologies, evaluation of public health surveillance systems, data management principles, and Geographic Information Systems software to measure spatial distributions of disease.
