Cybersecurity, M.S. (Online)


The Cybersecurity Center at the University of Nevada, Reno offers an online integrated course of study covering the theory, implementation and design of secure cyberspace (i.e., secure communication, computation, information, cyber-physical systems, IoT, hardware and embedded systems) for those seeking the Cybersecurity, M.S. The home department for this program is Computer Science and Engineering department.

Admission Requirements


  1. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited academic institution.
  2. Applicants having minimum GPA of 2.75 and computer science minor equivalency or better will be directly admitted into the core program.
  3. Applicants not having the minimum computer science minor equivalency or with GPA below 2.75 will be considered for admission into the bridge program (two bridge courses) before taking the core courses.
    • Bridge program candidates must successfully complete (as per UNR Graduate School Policy) two bridge courses (6 units) before starting core classes (30 units). (C or better is considered passing for the Graduate School. See Academic Requirements for Maintaining Graduate Standing .)
  4. All applicants must also submit
  • One page personal statement describing career goals
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Resume/CV

Admission decisions are competitive, and satisfaction of the above thresholds does not guarantee an admission. Exceptions to these criteria may be made for applicants who show exceptional qualification.

Program Objectives/Student Learning Outcomes


Graduates of the Cybersecurity, M.S. program will have the ability to:

  • apply engineering and computer science research and theory to advance the art, science, and practice of the discipline.
  • design and conduct experiments as well as to analyze, interpret, apply, and disseminate the data.
  • demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of research methodology.

I. Program Requirements (30 units)


At least 15 units must be completed at the 700-level.
