Science, Mind, and Philosophy, Minor

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs in the College of Liberal Arts

A comprehensive introduction to methods of science and mind with a focus on developing students’ understanding of the philosophy of science and mind. Students begin with core requirements that develop their critical reasoning skills, knowledge of the history of science and the study of mind, as well as basic scientific methods for studying cognitive phenomena. Following this, students acquire specialized knowledge of integral topics within the philosophy of science and mind, including core areas of philosophy relevant to these topics. The minor culminates in the student’s selection of electives chosen to enrich their interdisciplinary interests in the study of science and mind.

Students majoring in another field may minor in philosophy by completing the requirements outlined below for the Science, Mind, and Philosophy minor. Philosophy majors may not use a philosophy minor to fulfill their minor requirement. At least nine units of 300-400 level philosophy courses are required.
