The Masters of Science degree (M.S.) in Instructional Technology & Learning Design (ITLD) (32 credits) provides graduate level training for educators and prospective educators.  The program focuses on the knowledge and skills of instructional design and using technology tools to improve teaching and learning, especially on the design of online learning and digital applications in education. The curriculum meets the ISTE National Technology Standards for Teachers. While a portion of the course work focuses on skill development, emphasis is also on examining theoretical and conceptual frameworks relating to instructional technology and learning design. Potential applicants are expected to have a relevant background in education with an interest in exploring the uses of instructional technology in classrooms or any educational and training settings.

Program Objectives/Student Learning Outcomes


At the completion of the program, students will be able to

SLO1. Discuss and evaluate the current trends, needs, applications, diversity issues, and research in the field of instructional technology and learning design

SLO2. Apply instructional design theories to create learner/user experienced design models and digital instructions

SLO3. Demonstrate the mastery of instructional design, technology, and project management skills in classrooms or any educational and training settings

SLO4. Conduct evaluation and assessment in instructional technology based applications, projects, courses, curriculum, and programs.

  • Bachelor’s degree or recognized equivalent from a regionally accredited institution
  • Minimum undergraduate grade point average (on a 4.0 scale):
  • 2.75 for a master’s degree

I. Program Requirements


To complete the M.S. degree, students need to complete 32 units of course work, and complete the program assessment requirements including a comprehensive standardized E-portfolio, and two assessment examinations.

Students will complete the M.S. degree online, however, Professors and the Program Director will be available for face-to-face meetings to discuss coursework or program issues.
