LGBTQ Studies is an 18 unit interdisciplinary minor housed within the Department of Gender, Race, and Identity (GRI). Focused on the varied histories, cultures, politics, and identities associated with and created among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, two-spirit, intersex, and other (LGBTQ+) people in the United States and transnationally, the minor offers a variety of courses in the arts, the humanities, and social sciences. LGBTQ Studies situates sexual and gender identities in the contexts of their social construction, exploring the intersections of sexuality and gender with race, ethnicity, class, nationality, citizenship status, dis/ability, and other forms of power, and foregrounding questions of social justice for LGBTQ+ people and their communities. Students in the minor explore a range of interdisciplinary and theoretical approaches in the field, and study LGBTQ+ experiences in a variety of settings including the arts and culture; law and justice; health and family; politics and the economy; and other realms.

I. Program Requirements (18 units)
Students must complete 18 units in courses relating to LGBTQ+ histories, cultures, politics, identities, communities, or theories, emphasizing historical, contemporary, and intersectional implications.
- Minor GPA | 2.0
- Minor Upper-Division Units | 9
- Minor Residency Requirement | 6 Upper-Division Units in the minor at UNR
- Unit Overlap Limits | Per College of Liberal Arts policy, no more than 9 units counted toward any major may be reused to meet the requirements of this minor.
- Courses taken through USAC and other approved study abroad programs may be used to complete the minor (with advisor approval).

Choose one of the following introduction to LGBTQ studies courses (students are encouraged to enroll on the GRI side of either course):
C. Electives (12 units)
- Of the 12 units of electives, at least 9 units must be in upper-division (300-400 level) courses.
- Among the 12 units of electives, 6-12 units must be from Group 1, and 0-6 units from Group 2.
- Where courses are crosslisted between GRI or WMST and another department, students are encouraged to enroll on the GRI or WMST side of the course.
