Accelerated BS/MS Process

Students interested in the BS to MS KInesiology program should:

1. Meet with your Health Science advisor as early as possible by making an advisor appointment to determine if you are eligible for the BS to MMS program.
2. Complete 75 B.S. Kinesiology degree credits.
3. After undergraduate advisor approval, schedule a meeting with the KIN Graduate Director to determine graduate course enrollment and complete the BS to KIN MS powerform.
4. Ensure submission of BS to KIN MS powerform to the Graduate School for approval (by June 1^st to take KIN MS courses in the Fall, and November 1^st to take KIN MS courses in the Spring).
5. Following the completion of 108 undergraduate credits, register for graduate courses recommended by the Graduate Director and noted on the BS to KIN MS powerform.
6. Begin your first semester as a BS to KIN MS student attending graduate courses.
7. Review KIN MS admission requirements and prepare application.
8. Apply to the Master of Kinesiology program (ONLY) through the Graduate School (by November 1^st to be admitted as an KIN MS student in the Spring, and June 1^st to be admitted as a KIN MS student in the Fall).

Accelerated Admission Requirements

Qualified undergraduate students must:

• Meet the general admission requirements of the Graduate School.
• Have completed at least 75 units overall and designated major courses.
• Have earned a University of Nevada grade point average of at least 3.0. 

KIN MS Admission Requirements

1. BS Kinesiology degree with an undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
2. Three letters of recommendation: Letters of recommendation from individuals who can evaluate the applicant’s motivation, academic capability, scholarship potential, and personal goals for graduate study.
3. Statement of purpose: The essay should be approximately 500 words in length, outlining the student’s interest in graduate study in Kinesiology with an emphasis in K – 12 Physical Education/Nutrition.
4. Current curriculum in human sciences.
5. Resume or CV: Current resume or curriculum vitae (CV) that demonstrates professional and/or educational health-related experience.

The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is recommended and is not required for applicants who have already obtained a Ph.D., M.D., D.D.S., Dr.P.H., or master’s degree from institutions approved by the School of Public Health or the UNR Graduate School. Students who have a current (<5 years) GMAT or MCAT

Accelerated Continuation Requirements

To continue in an accelerated program, students must maintain a University of Nevada grade point average of 3.0 or higher in undergraduate courses, and at least a 3.0 in graduate courses. Students whose undergraduate GPA falls below 3.0 and/or whose graduate GPA falls below 3.0 will be placed on academic probation within the accelerated program for one semester. If they raise their GPA to meet the standards above, they will be removed from probation and returned to good standing. If after one semester, students are not able to raise their GPA sufficiently, they will be removed from the accelerated program. Students who have been removed from an accelerated program may pursue bachelors and masters degrees through normal requirements.

Bachelor’s Degree Completion

Students must complete a bachelor’s degree before advancing to graduate standing and/or receiving research or teaching assistantships. Students are expected to meet regularly with their advisor to ensure they are progressing appropriately.

Financial Impact

The 12 graduate credits approved to meet undergraduate degree requirements apply towards full-time status as an undergraduate student. Undergraduate financial aid is not available to students in accelerated programs after their undergraduate degree has been posted.
