Geographic Information Systems and Sciences (GIS) Certificate

A Certificate in Geographic Information Systems and Science (GIS) is offered through the Department of Geography. Students who complete the GIS Certificate program will combine proficiency in the use of geographic information systems with conceptual knowledge of geographic problem-solving and spatial thinking to address complex problems facing society. Students will gain experience with map-making, visual design and data display, research methods, oral and written communications, basic programming skills, and spatial analysis. Students obtaining the GIS Certificate will learn the tools, methods, and software necessary to manage and analyze spatial data and information and conduct appropriate analysis. This certificate is recommended for students interested in employment in either the public or private sector as a GIS or Remote Sensing Analyst, Cartographer, Planner, or students interested in pursuing graduate studies in Geography or a related field where use of geospatial science and technologies are included.
Note: Students who are enrolled in this program solely are not eligible for Federal Financial Aid.
