University General Course Catalog 2025-2026 (DRAFT)

Transfer Students

The Regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) allow students to retain catalog rights for ten years. Students who begin their studies at an NSHE two year institution, may, upon transfer to the university, request that their catalog year be changed to the year in effect when they began taking coursework applicable to their bachelor’s program. Students who transfer to UNR from other NSHE institutions with an AA, AB or AS degree will be given credit for completion of the Core General Education requirements (CO1-CO8). The university has similar agreements for specific AA and AS degrees from certain other states, such as California, Oregon, Texas, and Washington except that students must complete ENG 102  and satisfy CO8. For students who transfer prior to completion of one of the above programs or degrees, transcripts are evaluated on a course-by-course basis. Note that waivers will not be provided for Core requirements that are specific to the student’s academic major program.

At the time of their admission to the university, transfer students may access Transfer Credit and Academic Advising Reports in MyNEVADA. These reports show transfer course equivalencies and how transfer courses are being used to meet degree requirements. Questions about them should be directed to a Core Curriculum evaluator in Admissions and Records, the student’s academic advisor, or the Exploratory and Pre-Professional Advising Center. It is recommended that transfer students bring transcripts (unofficial copies are acceptable) from all previously attended institutions and their Academic Advising Report (AAR) when meeting with their advisor for the first time.
