CS 446 - Principles of Operating Systems

(3 units) CO12
Principles, components, and design of modern operating systems, focusing on the UNIX platform. Topics include: concurrent processes, inter-process communication, processor and virtual/real memory management, deadlock.

Prerequisite(s): CS 302  with a “C” or better; CPE 301 . Corequisite(s): ENGR 301 .

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will have an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.

6. Students will have an ability to apply mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and computer science and engineering theory in the modeling and design of computer-based systems in a way that demonstrates comprehension of the tradeoffs involved in design choices.
