EDSC 433 - Teaching Secondary English (3 units) Principles and practices for teaching the English language arts in the secondary schools.
Prerequisite(s): EDSC 321 ; admission to a secondary education program.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. compose thoughtful reflective writings that demonstrate understanding of the complexities of planning, teaching, classroom and behavior management required of teachers in a secondary school setting. 2. write a comprehensive, standards-based unit plan that demonstrates your understanding of meaningful content and skills that support learning and high student engagement. Use livebinder to post your unit plan and share your resources. 3. integrate 21c Learning into your unit plan; explain how you would use the technology in your classroom; and explain your rationale for integrating technology and how it will support student learning in regards to 21C competencies. 4. construct an evaluation set of instruments that supports your unit plan and to demonstrate your understanding of the difference between formative and summative assessment.
