MUS 254 - Jazz Improvisation II (2 units) Performance-oriented study of the basic techniques of improvisation in the jazz idiom.
Prerequisite(s): MUS 253 .
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 2 Offered: Every Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. transcribe, analyze and perform recorded improvisations by many of the great jazz improvisors of the past and present. 2. demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the “altered” scales and chords used in jazz improvisation. 3. memorize and perform several tunes from the standard jazz (“tin pan alley”) repertoire.
