MUS 354 - Jazz Improvisation IV (2 units) Performance-oriented study of intermediate-to-advanced techniques of improvisation in the jazz idiom.
Prerequisite(s): MUS 353 .
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 2 Offered: Every Fall - Odd Years
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. perform spontaneously composed solo and ensemble free improvisations. 2. demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the “giant steps” reharmonizations made famous by John Coltrane. 3. compose both notated and non-notated pieces in the “free jazz” style.
