MUS 410 - Jazz Composition (3 units)
Applied study of original writing in the jazz idiom. Exploration of melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, and formal principles. Analysis of works by influential composers.
Prerequisite(s): MUS 254 ; MUS 256 .

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. compose pieces demonstrating basic knowledge of tonal and modal harmony.
2. compose pieces that adhere to standard forms such as AABA.
3. compose pieces that demonstrate conceptual and theoretical understanding of various historical periods .
