EDSP 444 - Special Education Curricula: Approaches for Adolescents (3 units) Needs of adolescents with cognitive and behavioral disorders in secondary school special education programs. Strategies to improve academic, social, career/vocational and transition skills.
Prerequisite(s): EDSP 443 ; EDSP 485 ; admission to a teacher education program.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. demonstrate knowledge of major developmental tasks of adolescents and their experiences in contemporary social context as measured through the development of a transition portfolio. 2. apply knowledge of theoretical foundations of cognitive strategy instruction by developing a teaching unit. 3. develop differentiated instructional activities designed specifically for secondary students with disabilities across curriculum areas by creating a differentiated lesson or a universal design for learning (UDL) lesson. 4. demonstrate skills in student planning by developing a student centered Individual Transition Plan (ITP).
