EDSP 453 - Behavior Mgmt & Social-Emotional Learning in the Classroom (3 units) Developing, implementing and evaluating behavior management techniques, including social-emotional & academic development for general and special education classrooms. Assessment and intervention into problem behaviors.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. appropriately use at least three data collection methods to gather data on student behaviors in order to assess a problem behavior and develop a hypothesis for the possible function of the problem behavior. 2. design positive behavior support plans that pair the appropriate behavioral interventions for hypothesized functions of problem behaviors. 3. evaluate data collected after implementation of an intervention plan in order to assess the effectiveness of the plan in effecting behavior change. 4. demonstrate methods to explicitly teach interpersonal skills, including communication and self-management, aligning lessons with classroom and school wide expectations for student behavior.
