CHEM 741 - Advanced Organic Structure Elucidation (3 units) Methods used for structure elucidation.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. explain fundamental concepts of organic structure elucidation of complex molecules. 2. elucidate the structures, including relative stereochemistry, of organic molecules from the combination of 2-D and 1-D NMR experiments and complex coupling constant analysis. 3. predict the spectra and other experimental properties of complex organic molecules based on their structures. 4. elucidate the structures of polymeric and oligomeric molecules using advanced techniques in mass spectrometry. 5. Students will be able to quantify experimental outcomes using spectroscopic analysis of complex mixtures.
