COM 730 - Organizational Communication (3 units) Overview of organizational communication as academic area of inquiry, focusing on research, concepts, and theories that allows for practical understanding of the role of communication in and of organizations and the academic study of organizational practices.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. identify communication studies approaches to studying organizations. 2. articulate organizational communication perspectives, theories, and issues. 3. explain the role of communication in, and as constitutive of, organizations. 4. apply organizational communication theory to a variety of situations, including your organizational experiences, current events, and representations of organizations in popular culture. 5. propose organizational research and understand the challenges, constraints, and ethics of studying contemporary organizations. 6. identify communication strategies to enhance effectiveness of organizational communication practice.
