CRJ 750 - Systems, Policy, and Planned Change (3 units) Before creating criminal justice policy and implementing it, policymakers and practitioners must be up-to-date on current knowledge and recent developments about crime and the evidence-based practices that address crime. This course is designed to provide students with a research-informed understanding of crime and the responses of the the criminal justice system.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. evaluate programs, procedures, and policies that led to changes in policing, corrections, court and sentencing, and juvenile justice. 2. interpret political, cultural, and intellectual sources of criminal justice public policy. 3. evaluate recent literature examining criminal justice public policy through written critiques. 4. articulate the “dos” and “don’ts” of implementing new programs, procedures, and policies. 5. describe the special challenges and practices of criminal justice administrators. 6. explain how police, court, and correction agencies are organized, their personnel roles and functions, and their issues and problems. 7. discuss the nature and functions of an organization.
