EDU 203 - Introduction to Special Education (3 units) Focus on teacher roles. Foundations and characteristics of effective instruction of students with various disabilities, in general education classrooms.
Prerequisite(s): Admitted to pre-major in education.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall and Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. compare and contrast special education legislation and litigation. 2. identify the continuum of educational service placements for students with special needs. 3. identify and explain the referral and identification process within special education, including the development and implementation of an IEP. 4. discuss and explain the rights, responsibilities, and roles of students, parents, teachers, related service providers, other professionals, and schools related to special education. 5. identify and describe the definition, etiology, and characteristics of students with high incidence disabilities.
