FREN 312 - French Phonetics and Pronunciation (3 units) Introduction to phonetic theory and practice in pronunciation; instruction and practice in levels and usage. Not open to native speakers using the standard form of the language.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. describe the phonetic and phonological system of French. 2. identify the symbols of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). 3. demonstrate proper pronunciation of French texts. 4. transcribe French words and sentences using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). 5. apply the principles of French phonetics and phonology to the teaching of French.
