NURS 485 - Transitioning to the Professional Nursing Role (3 units) CO14 Transitions to the new graduate role by exploring the levels of and pathways to licensure, the dynamics of being a professional nurse, and adopting strategies for success across healthcare and sociocultural settings.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. evaluate the legal, political, socio-economic, and cultural issues and trends that influence the safety and health outcomes of patients and populations. 2. describe nursing regulation, scope of practice, and laws that govern and guide professional nursing conduct and practice. 3. assess how regulatory, legislative, and health policies can influence nursing practice and the health outcomes of patients and populations. 4. discuss the impact of ethical principles and theories on decision-making in diverse healthcare settings. 5. identify transition strategies that lead to successfully practicing as a nurse professional. 6. demonstrate improving performance on NCLEX style exit examinations.
