SOC 425 - Research Methods (3 units) CO14 Major techniques and problems encountered in both quantitative and qualitative research in the social sciences.
Prerequisite(s): SOC 101 ; Junior or Senior standing.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. define and explain the fundamental building blocks of social-scientific research including types of theoretical explanations, conceptualization and measurement, and probability vs. non probability-based samples. 2. critically evaluate the design and ethical implications of social-scientific research studies. 3. formulate and articulate an original research question and/or hypothesis that can be translated into a researchable design. 4. create a complete research proposal including an introduction, literature review, formal statement of research question and/or hypothesis, research design, and study strengths and limitations.
