NURS 709 - Adv Prescribing Pharmacology for the Acutely Ill Patient (2 units) Application of basic pharmacologic principles applied to medications prescribing in the acute care environment in an evidence-based approach.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. apply the principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in selecting drugs. 2. analyze the relationship between pharmacologic agents and physiologic/pathologic responses. 3. compare and contrast pharmacological agents with respect to treatment of patients with specific acute health problems. 4. identify actual and potential adverse drug reactions and significant drug interactions. 5. develop and provide relevant educational strategies to facilitate patient collaboration in treatment and to maximize therapeutic response. 6. evaluate the effects of single and multiple drug regimens on patient health status and functioning.
