BIOT 319 - Trends in Biotechnology

Introduce science majors to the research and controversy behind Biotechnology and genetically engineered organisms (GEO’s). We will also explore how differences in global views can influence the varying practices of nations. Biotechnology as it applies to medical research, forensics, manufacturing, and food production will be highlighted in this course.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. demonstrate comprehension of basic scientific concepts related to genetic engineering in order to develop core knowledge in this area and explain the application behind the science and the problem this application was originally intended to solve.
2. integrate and synthesize core knowledge and analyze open-ended problems or complex issues.
3. demonstrate understanding of how local, national, and international influences have affected policies concerning science.
