NURS 472 - Quality Measurement in an Electronic Age (3 units) CO9 This course examines the role of information systems and quality improvement processes used to monitor and improve healthcare outcomes. Covers use of information management to impact cost, safety, and coordination of care. Includes adaptations to information access and management in diverse healthcare settings.

Prerequisite(s): General Education courses (CO1-CO3) completed; at least 3 courses from CO4-CO8 completed; Junior or Senior standing. Recommended Preparation: Enrollment in a healthcare-related major is strongly encouraged.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. apply selected informatics concepts to the measurement of healthcare quality in the U.S. healthcare system. 2. analyze the contributions of quality measurement to healthcare outcomes. 3. articulate current and emerging technologies to improve health outcomes. 4. utilize select theories that guide the application of informatics to improve health outcomes. 5. examine policies relevant to the use of health and information technologies.
