NURS 496 - Health Care Policy, Regulation, & Financing (3 units) CO8, CO13 Social, political, and economic dimensions of healthcare policy, regulation, and financing. Review of the US and NV Constitutions through a healthcare lens.

Prerequisite(s): General Education courses (CO1-CO3) completed; at least 3 courses from CO4-CO8 completed; Junior or Senior standing. Recommended Preparation: Enrollment in a healthcare-related major is strongly encouraged.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. demonstrate the ability to clearly, cogently, and succinctly express ideas orally and in writing. 2. understand the principles of constitutional government as practiced in the United States and Nevada. 3. describe the impact of the US and Nevada constitutions on selected healthcare topics. 4. evaluate the ways in which state and federal health laws and regulations are developed, implemented, and enforced. 5. synthesize health policy literature to analyze trends and events affecting healthcare. 6. apply public and private healthcare reimbursement strategies to individuals with diverse healthcare needs.
