NURS 497 - Legal and Ethical Issues in Healthcare (3 units) CO12 Legal and ethical issues relevant to healthcare professions. Students will analyze the concepts of jurisprudence, regulation of healthcare, and ethical practice in healthcare settings.
Maximum units a student may earn: 3
Prerequisite(s): General Education courses (CO1-CO3) completed; at least 3 courses from CO4-CO8 completed; Junior or Senior standing. Recommended Preparation: Enrollment in a healthcare-related major is strongly encouraged.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. examine regulatory and legal concepts that govern healthcare. 2. analyze ethical issues as they apply to healthcare professions. 3. evaluate the legal rights and responsibilities of healthcare providers as members of an interdisciplinary teams. 4. apply professional Codes of Ethics to guide professional decision-making. 5. appraise ethical decision-making frameworks.
